Education & General IT (E&G IT)

The Associate Provost for Education and General IT (E&G IT) provides coordination between the Offices of the CIO and the Provost. As with the other dual report Senior VP IT units (Administrative IT, HSC IT, and IFAS IT), the E&G IT unit serves as an IT liaison between the nine E&G colleges and other units reporting to the Provost, the Provost and the CIO.

What is E&G IT?

The information technology activities grouped together as "E&G IT" range from individual faculty members directly purchasing and maintaining their own computers and printers, to dedicated IT support units with full-time professionals specialized in particular technical areas including, but not limited to, online course production, workstation support, server administration, application programming, networking, information security, database management and third party application coordination.

This variety of services has evolved over time as individual units (UF Colleges, administrative offices, departments, and the like) determine what IT services are essential for their areas of responsibilities. Since every unit has different needs, priorities and funding sources, the related IT support areas reflect the decisions and resources of these individual units.

Therefore E&G IT's decentralized organization is appropriate and necessary to meet the varying information and technology needs of teaching, research and extension activities across a wide range of academic areas, while acknowledging the budget realities within those areas.

For a list of contacts and units falling with E&G IT please see the E&G IT Units & Contacts page.

For information about optional services that may be useful forĀ unit-based IT shops at UF, please see the UFIT Services Catalog page.
